Academic & Clinical Journey
Dr. Taher Abu Hejleh is a hematologist and medical oncologist with extensive experience in patient care, research, and medical education. He earned his MB;BS degree from Jordan University of Science and Technology and subsequently completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical Investigation at the University of Iowa, USA. He completed his internship, residency in Internal Medicine, fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology, and served as a Chief Fellow at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC).
Throughout his career, Dr. Abu Hejleh has held numerous academic and leadership positions in both the United States and Jordan. At the University of Iowa, he served as Leader of the Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology Group, Director of Inpatient Oncology Services, Co-Director of the Cancer Diagnostic Clinic, Coordinator of the Cancer Survivorship Program, and Medical Director of Clinical Services at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. He currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.
In Jordan, Dr. Abu Hejleh has held several leadership roles at King Hussein Cancer Center, including Director of the Outpatient Clinics, Head of the Thoracic Oncology Service, Associate Director of the Medical Oncology Fellowship Program, and Chairman of the Research Council. He currently practices as a Consultant in Hematology and Medical Oncology at his clinic in Amman, Jordan.

Research, Education & Professional Leadership
Dr. Abu Hejleh has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications with particular focus on lung cancer, and head & neck cancers. He has served as Principal Investigator on multiple clinical trials and is actively involved in advancing cancer research and education.
He is the President of the Lung Cancer Alliance in Arabic-Speaking MENA (LCAM-Arabic), an initiative dedicated to improving lung cancer care, education, and research throughout the region. He also serves as the Head of the Scientific Committee of the Jordan Oncology Society and is an active member of leading international organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).

Dr. Abu Hejleh has received numerous academic and professional distinctions throughout his career, including the Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Merit Award, Teacher of the Year Awards at the University of Iowa, and national recognition in the United States, ranking among the Top 10% of physicians nationwide for patient experience in 2021.
